Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ Year A

Lord, may this holy banquet of your Body & Blood help us to grow in holiness & faith

Scripture Scholars sometimes refer to this Gospel as Jesus’ autobiography. He is describing his own experiences of how so many people have responded in mixed ways to his teaching. It seems that at times comparatively few people had a deep & enduring experience of conversion.

Father Joe’s 25th Anniversary of Priesthood

The opportunity will be available this weekend for parishioners to make a contribution towards a gift for Father Joe. There will be a short presentation, and then a leaving appeal as people depart the church. Please keep in mind the Anniversary Mass and Reception on Sunday 27 August. All people will be allocated to a table, creating a good opportunity to possibly meet other parishioners. Leaflets are available on the various magazine tables throughout the church and chapel.

    Chapel Cleaning

A few volunteers to clean the chapel would be greatly appreciated. The commitment is for one occasion in each, with cleaning taking approximately 45 minutes. Please contact our parish office during business hours if able to assist.

Australian Pastoral Musicians Network National Conference

For all our musicians, choristers and vocalists, an invitation is extended to participate. The conference will be of special value because the occasional presenters are David Haas and Clare Johnson. David Haas, especially, has composed many beautiful works over the years. The conference has been scheduled from 5-7 October 2017 in Scarborough, Western Australia. If interested in attending, please contact Father Michael. These kinds of conferences are invariably most enriching.

The big occasion has been scheduled for 3rd Aug. 2017, commencing at 10.30 AM. The cost of the occasion is $10 which includes a light lunch. All goods paraded or displayed will be for sale. Orders can also be taken for items requiring a different size or colour. The display will include casual wear, through to baby wear, bunny rugs, children’s wear and novelties. Some menswear will also be available. Can someone please inform Father Michael as to what is a bunny rug! RSVP to Helen on 4655 7838 by 27 July.

Camelot in Support of The Ephpheta Centre

Camelot will be performed by Artes Christi at the Seymour Centre over 18, 19 & 20 August to raise much needed funds for the Ephpheta Catholic Centre for the Deaf.   Phone 9351 7940 for more information.

Planned Giving Envelopes ready for pick up

The yearly supply of planned giving envelopes are available for pick up, on the table in the back of the big church.  If you haven’t yet signed up for envelopes and would still like to, or for any enquiries about the envelopes, please contact Elizabeth in the parish office.

    Prayers of the Faithful

Celebrant: Christ was attempting to speak to the crowds and used a parable to assist them to understand. He realises, however, that many will not comprehend. Let us pray for those who need to listen and to understand the word of God.

    1. For those who need to understand that God is love,
    Lord hear us.

Response:     Lord, we ask you, hear our prayer.

    2. For those who have difficulty in accepting Christ’s words,
    Lord hear us.

    3. For those who cannot escape losing,
    Lord hear us.

    4. For those whose hearts are hardened by life,
    Lord hear us.

    5. For those who are indifferent to suffering,
    Lord hear us.

    6. For those who have closed their ears and eyes to the Words of God,
    Lord hear us.

Celebrant: O God, help us to curb our desires to always be a winner in life. And help us to accept life’s challenges and to know that, not in our strength alone, but in your strength is our hope. We make all these prayers through Christ Our Lord.
    Amen.
